Reaching the conference

We assume most of you will travel to Santa Marinella through Rome; those who will not will come by car or by train through Pisa and do not need any explanation on how to get there.

Santa Marinella is easily reached from Rome (city, train station, airport) by train, with two trains per hour. Trains can be rather crowded at rush hours.

Warning: for some reason all the train tickets in Italy are now valid only on a specified day; so if you buy your ticket in advance (which can also be done on your smartphone) please be sure to indicate the proper date (and hour if on the smartphone)

Warning:
all train schedules mentioned below are correct at the moment, but there could be changes from June 1; please check them.

From Fiumicino FCO airport

If you land in Fiumicino you have three options:
If you travel by train, note that there are two types of trains from the Fiumicino FCO airport to Rome: a fast train no-stop to Termini, and a regular train stopping also in Trastevere and Ostiense (but NOT in Termini); the most convenient way to travel from Fiumicino airport is by regular train to Roma Trastevere, and from there to Santa Marinella (you can buy a combined ticket in the airport). The cumulative train ticket from Airport to Santa Marinella costs 11.00 E; travel time varies (see below) between 1h23' and 1h43' including the connection time in Trastevere.

Direct transfer to the Hotel

A local company offers direct transfer (on appointment) from airport to the Hotel or viceversa. The service must be required in advance and the costs are as follows (number of passengers in a car corresponds to standard baggage; a bigger car can be needed in case of large/many pieces of baggage)
1-3 people:  70E (+ TVA 10%) each way
4-6 people:  90E
(+ TVA 10%) each way
7-8 people: 110E
(+ TVA 10%) each way
Travel time should be around 45'.

From Termini train station

Trains stopping in Santa Marinella are all the regional (usually at **.42 with ** in the range 06-20) and fast regional (usually at minute **.12, with ** in the range 06-22) trains directed to Civitavecchia, Grosseto, Montalto or Pisa. They depart from Roma Termini and all of them also stop in Roma Ostiense, Roma Trastevere and Roma San Pietro.

Regional train leave usually at **.42 (with ** in the range 06-21), fast regional ones at **.42 (here ** in the range 06-22). There are a few extra trains at rush hours. Note on sundays there are much less trains. Full schedule is available online at www.trenitalia.com or www.trenitalia.it

Note also that trains to S. Marinella (Civitavecchia/Grosseto/Pisa) depart from platforms 25-28; these are a bit "shorter" than other ones; this means that if you arrive in Termini by another train - considering also you don't know your way - you will need about ten minutes to walk there from other platforms (less using the underground walk).

Travel time varies between 53' and 1h13' depending on the train.

From other (Trastevere) train stations

All trains traveling from Termini to Santa Marinella (and directed to
Civitavecchia, Grosseto, Montalto or Pisa, see above), also stop in Roma Ostiense, Roma Trastevere and in Roma San Pietro train stations (the slow ones also stop in Roma Tuscolana and Roma Aurelia).
In particular Roma Trastevere
is suggested to those arriving from Fiumicino airport or from the city center (note there you will have to buy your ticket at a vending machine, some of these only accept credit cards and there can be a long line due to people traveling to the airport; in alternative, you can buy a ticket at the newspapers kiosk inside the station). At Trastevere all trains to Santa Marinella stop at platform 2, and conversely all trains stopping on platform 2 will take you to Santa Marinella.

Fast trains usually leave from Trastevere at **.27, regular ones at **.57.
Travel time varies between 38' and 58' depending on the train.

From Rome city center

If you leave from Rome city center (e.g. if you spend there the previous weekend) you can reach by bus/tram Roma Termini or (perhaps more conveniently) Roma Trastevere. In this latter case you want to use tram no.8 (heading to "Casaletto") which provides a frequent service. It leaves from Piazza Venezia and stops in Piazza Argentina. Consider about twenty minutes from there to Roma Trastevere ("stazione di trastevere" if you are asking directions - or you will end up in Trastevere area a few km away). The stop you want is the one where the tram starts climbing up after a sharp bend on the right.

From S. Marinella train station to the Hotel

This is a short walk (say five minutes). From the station, reach via Aurelia (20 mt) and turn left. When you reach a square turn right and get straight on up to the next little square, qwhere the Hotel is located. You can atch on google maps looking for
"Piazza Trieste, Santa Marinella" (this will also give you the option to walk on the pareallel and more quiet road). See also this map.

Driving there

In case you land in Fiumicino airport but rent a car, just drive on the motorway to Rome; after some km you will find a branch for the motorway A12 to Civitavecchia/Tarquinia; you want to use the exit "S.Marinella/S.Severa" and drive north on Aurelia for about 6 km: you will find an AGIP gas station on the left with a small ascent shortly after, and a square at the end of it; turn left at the end of the square, take the little road in front of you, leading to a second square, and you are at the Hotel. They will advise you about parking.
Drive from the airport to the Hotel should be about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace (41 minutes according to Google; set "Piazza Trieste, Santa Marinella" on your navigator, if any).
